Mosaic themed floor in green and blue with a sixteen-tile flower pattern c. 1930


These encaustic tiles have been reclaimed from a fine house near Brussels. The tiles were made and stamped by Gilliot Hemiksem around 1930. This striking floor with 16-tile pattern is impressive and classical in design. De floor tiles are framed by a dubble border. The field tiles can be led in several ways.

Between 1927 -1928 Francisco de Paula Ramos de Azevedo (one of the most famous architects of Latin America) used the same type of tiles for Casas das Roses in Brazil. Today, you can still find this beautiful Belgian ceramic tiles on the garden terraces overlooking the famous rose garden of this beautiful mansion.
